Chaim Broyde was asked to submit his vision and a few words on the most significant issues he will tackle for the city to a group of English speaker in Raanana. Here is an excerpt of his submission:
Dear xxx Member,

I would like to present my vision of Raanana to you. My vision is to transform Raanana into a modern city that connects its past and its future, a city founded on its most important asset, namely, our wonderful residents. I will take charge of a municipality that, once again, will lead in education, personal security and cleanliness; a municipality whose operations, building, and collections departments work for the residents and with heightened sensitivity, a municipality that serves as a model of cooperation between new and veteran residents, between the religious and secular sectors, and a municipality that actively integrates new immigrants to the city’s daily life.

I’d like to present the five candidates in my list for City Council:

Mr. Offer Ben Dor: Graduate of Unit 8200, Certified Public Accountant, Real Estate Appraisal, Real Estate Management, a consultant in the strategic transformation and rehabilitation of companies and an expert in urban real estate planning, with extensive experience in managing large publicly-traded companies. He is also an athletic trainer of marathon runners, often accompanying blind runners in marathons, and an avid mountain climber, often climbing with handicapped people. Offer is the founder and chairman of the non-profit organization "180 degrees Sport Without Borders".

Ms. Anna Pozmantir: An honors graduate in interior design and architecture studies, Anna runs a business for interior design. She also holds a degree in pre-school education. She’s been an active community volunteer including head of the city-wide parents committee, and the chairperson of its anti-drug subcommittee, and partner and founder of the Public Libraries Project. Anna immigrated from Uruguay 39 years ago.

Mr. Rahamim Shalom: Director of Logistics and Maintenance Department at the Ramat Gan Municipality and treasurer of the workers' committee, Rahamim was formerly a soccer player in Hapoel Raanana, Betar Jerusalem and Maccabi Ramat Amidar. He volunteers as a manager for various sports teams, in addition to being well-known for his work with disadvantaged residents.

Ms. Smadar Gal: Smadar holds degrees in special education, law and a master's degree in public and political leadership. She works as an independent real estate lawyer. In the past, she’s served as a founder and chair of the parents' committee of the Roi Klein High School and worked as a truant officer in the municipality of Or Yehuda, treating youth at risk. Together with a group of parents, she initiated the opening of the first religious long-day kindergarten in Raanana.

Meir Noach: A student studying towards a degree in education, Meir served for 3 consecutive years as chair of the City-Wide Student Council of Raanana. He represented Raanana in regional and country-wide councils. He’s an ardent volunteer in the organization Aluma and various others. He has earned many awards of recognition for his public service.

I believe that my list reflects the mosaic of the city's residents, comprised of people with vast knowledge and experience in the diverse fields that are needed to make significant changes and improvements in the city. In addition to these five, there are dozens of talented professionals who have gathered around me in support and advice over the last 18 months.

The main problems facing Raanana today:
Raanana faces a wide range of problems that require immediate attention, particularly in the areas of education and the lack of parity in the distribution of resources, the lack of housing for young couples, the lack of parking, few centers for entertainment and leisure, the mismanagement of rehabilitation of old building structures (TAMA) and more, all of which will be handled with the assistance of leading professionals. Here I will just touch on a few highlighted issues:

  1. Personal security: The frequency of home burglaries has increased greatly in recent years, harming residents' sense of security in their own home – the place that should remain a safe haven for everyone. The main cause of the problem begins with the lack of care and basic neglect from local authorities, a literal calling card to thieves. The plan I built is based on a security solution that has already been proven in Ness Ziona, resulting in a sharp decrease in the number of burglaries within a short period of time. The plans’ main points are: 1) the installation of "smart cameras" at all entrances and exits in and out of Raanana, enabling information to be analyzed on suspicious vehicles entering or leaving the city. This would also include the access road to Givat Chen. 2). The police will set up traffic roadblocks at access roads – including at the unpaved paths around the city (the Batzra region, Rishpon, Givat Chen) which also serve as escape routes with stolen property. 3) I will ask the police commissioner to appoint an Investigation Officer in Raanana, a well-deserved addition for a city of 85,000 residents, who will thoroughly investigate every case of theft in hope of finding the perpetrators.
  2. The appearance of the city: Anyone who walks around the city will notice a decrease in the level of cleanliness, evident in the treatment of dog feces, and in the garbage that is left around. I intend to divide Raanana into 8 areas and appoint a city manager for all aspects that affect your immediate vicinity like cleanliness, gardens, etc. In addition, we will uncompromisingly enforce the law requiring dog owners to take care of their dogs’ needs and collect them from the public domain.
  3. The status quo: From the beginning of time, Raanana has been a model city for cooperation and collaboration between religious and secular sectors. Unfortunately, in recent years, some public representatives of various factions in the city have been unfairly representing their constituencies for the sake of their own political gain by communicating that there is a chasm between the religious and the secular sectors. I wish to state here that I will maintain the status quo in all matters relating to the opening of stores on the Sabbath, that stores on Ahuza will remain closed, while I will develop places of entertainment for the secular residents in the industrial zone. As mayor, I will work towards unity on all levels, and will do everything to maintain and strengthen the cooperation among all sectors of our community.

Personal Message:
According to all the polls, the next elections are basically between Eitan Ginzburg and myself. We represent two different worlds of values. As someone who has been connected to the residents for decades, who grew up in Raanana and understands the city’s huge potential, I offer Raanana’s residents the tremendous energies required to lead the necessary changes to bring our city to a level of excellence. There is no reason why Raanana should not be the model that other cities around the world strive to copy. With my wealth of experience in city council and many municipal committees, I understand the importance of teamwork which explains why I put together an extensive team of leading professionals with deep experience and proven success in their fields of expertise, all dedicated to collaborating to achieve excellence for the people. Together, with our mindset and goals for unity, collaboration and great achievements, we will all benefit from a high quality of life.

Yours sincerely,
Chaim Broyde
